Making Greg
‘Greg’ is A New Design’s R&D project.
This project aimed to streamline our process for creating photorealistic, animatable digi-doubles for both offline rendering and real-time use in Unreal Engine. Explore how we brought Greg to life, capturing the intricacies of the human face, including dynamic wrinkles and blood flow.

Real-time Workflow
We believe that Unreal Engine and real-time technology significantly accelerates the process and enhances workflow efficiency. By leveraging Unreal Engine's capabilities, we can quickly iterate and refine our designs, allowing for more creative exploration and rapid adjustments. Real-time rendering provides immediate feedback, which is invaluable for making informed decisions throughout the development process.
To achieve the best results, we pushed the engine to its limits, using offline renders and photo references as benchmarks. This rigorous comparison ensured that the quality of our real-time outputs matched or even surpassed traditional rendering methods. The results speak for themselves, demonstrating the power and potential of integrating Unreal Engine and real-time technology into our workflow.
Below are renders generated in Unreal Engine 5 using the rasterizer and Lumen.
